Handling Pages & Cross-Cover
When paged: Get patient name, room, nurse, problem. Pull chart. Go see the patient. Document.
Common pages:
โข Fever: Cultures (blood/urine), CXR, exam
โข Pain: Acetaminophen โ NSAID โ opioid
โข Insomnia: Melatonin โ trazodone. Avoid benzos.
โข HTN: Symptomatic? Asymptomatic HTN rarely needs emergent Rx
โข Hypoglycemia: D50 if < 70 and symptomatic. Recheck 15 min.
โข Fall: Neuro exam, CT head if on anticoag
โข Chest pain: ECG, troponin, compare to prior

Day One Survival Tips
Before day one: EMR access, know how to page, bring phone charger
On wards:
โข Pre-round early -see patients before rounds
โข Write your plan before rounds
โข Carry a patient list with key info
โข Ask for help -seniors expect and respect it
โข "I don't know, but I'll look it up" is always acceptable
โข Sign out clearly
